“At one time or another, everyone dreams of a magical place to disappear into themselves. Spirit on the Water is that pleasure palace – and my own best kept secret.” Scott Griffin
The enchanting magic of Spirit on the Water, sitting 100 feet above the Caribbean, is how seamlessly it blends into the ocean and horizon beyond. The infinity edge pool becomes one with the waves that extend to the shores of the British Virgin Islands in the far distance. Along the way, a scattering of small islands adds breathtaking drama to nature’s canvas.
At the very end of a private drive on the Northeast side of St. Thomas, you’ll discover a secluded, one-of-a-kind healing environment. Spirit on the Water is all about the space and the freedom to live, breathe and move, and it shows in our architecture.
The coral stone entry through wrought iron gates and an arched teak doorway leads to a walkway between the secluded Garden Courtyard and the villa’s Kitchen and casual dining area. Gardenias, Bougainvillea, Birds of Paradise and orchids grow on swaying palms and the sound of the bubbling fountain relax you from the moment you enter.
As you walk through the front entrance, you find yourself wondering if you have actually entered the house or not. You’ll notice there aren’t any walls from the open-air courtyard to the large ocean front kitchen and living area.
In the courtyard there is a colorful dining table for ten and further seating for eight. The space is lit from burlap-covered light strands overhead, providing a soft and inviting atmosphere.
Along the ocean front side, opposite the courtyard, is the fully equipped open kitchen with granite countertops and a casual dining area that seats 10. Preparing, serving and enjoying your delicious meals in this breathtaking setting is beyond description.
The Infinity Edge Pool is lined with Italian glass tile that sparkles in the sunlight and glows with the underwater lighting system at night. It’s a saltwater pool that is solar heated most of the year. Rattan revolving Orbit Chairs, a covered seating area for five, and a teak table for eight provide seating at the far end of the pool. You’ll find plenty of pool floats, outdoor speakers, and an 14ft x 5ft ledge (ideal dance floor!) to provide for your maximum enjoyment of one of the coolest pools you will ever experience.
The Dream Suite opens onto a large deck with lounge chairs overlooking the pool and the ocean. With its en-suite bathroom and a drop down shower with ocean views, a Duxianna queen bed with soft linens, a flat screen TV with Dish Network and a bookshelf full of great reads, you may never want to leave your suite. There is also a twin size 18th Century daybed for additional sleeping or lounging.
The Blue Moon Room opens onto a smaller deck adjoining the pool and also looks out over the ocean. There is a tall, really comfortable antique queen bed and a twin bed. The bathroom for the Blue Room is just around the corner and has a skylight in the shower!
Both bedrooms are air-conditioned and have blackout curtains (neither of which get used very often because of the ocean breeze that comes from the East and the beauty that comes from the landscape: you probably won’t want to block any of it out).
Upstairs is what we call The Branch. The Branch has two twin beds, a set of double bunk beds and a TV with Dish network and air conditioning. The room looks out over the vast ocean on one side and into the colorful courtyard on the other.
A walkway off the Branch leads you to the deck of a separate apartment called The Treehouse on the Water. The Treehouse on the Water is a large studio apartment tucked into the side of a hill with an outdoor shower overlooking the ocean! It’s inviting, warm, and relaxing.
From the colorful “stairway to heaven”, to the outdoor shower, to the turquoise water and islands in the distance—all will remind you of what balance looks like as your immediate concerns just float away.
The large studio apartment contains a kitchenette, refrigerator with an ice maker, toaster oven, microwave, an incredibly comfortable queen size bed, a full size bunk bed and a twin size bunk bed, a 47′ flat screen TV with Dish Network and an island charm that makes you feel like you belong here.
You will be happy to know that Spirit on the Water has an automatic generator so should the electricity go out (it sometimes happens on the island) we’ve got you covered. We also have a water filtering system that turns our collected rainwater into the most delicious water ever. It’s filtered twice and run through a UV sanitation system, so yes, we can all drink the water! There is also wireless Internet throughout house. Oh, and there are several propane powered ‘Mosquito Magnets’ spread around the property so bugs are not a problem.
Travel down a flight of stairs from the infinity pool to find our new Ocean Front Deck, an additional 600 sq. ft. deck for doing yoga, tai chi or just lounging. Palm trees growing up through the deck, and lit from below at night, sway in the constant breeze and it’s not unusual to find the entire deck lined with mattresses for star gazing or ceremonies!
The Vision on the Water is over 2,000 square feet with surrounding decks. The Upstairs is the gathering room and down below are three bedrooms. The Queen, The King and The Aces. The Vision serves as an event destination for retreats, a gathering hub for the community, an art studio, a mediation room, a dance studio, and a space to find the home in your heart.
The Vision is a Jewel Box on a Cliff over the sea. Calling you home. There is a small semi-outdoor kitchenette as well as two bathrooms and a shower on the upper floor. Down below are three bedrooms and a shower with down island views and a perch to sit and ponder on the edge of the world. .
During ceremonies and events The Vision on the Water is blanketed with comfortable mattresses and an array of pillows for community sleeping.
Being at Spirit on the Water is truly a unique experience. It’s private, inspiring, funky, fun and full of Spirit!
